The Band

Martin Bischof - Keyboards / Bass Synth

After first musical attempts in elementary school (xylophone, recorder, triangle) almost 4 years of piano lessons at the age of 10-14. For various reasons followed subsequently a more than 30-year break from active music making.
In between, my own musical tastes had changed from the mainstream of the 80's to a much more diverse and sometimes challenging spectrum. Several of the now appreciated classical and modern styles can be found in the various styles of prog, and this is also true for the music of Quiet Earth: rocky parts alternating with quiet, atmospheric parts, rhythmic and compositional complexity that always leaves enough room for interesting harmonies and beautiful melodies - making the whole thing accessible even to the less prog-affine listener.
So the band has become a nice and exciting part of life - despite initial doubts, because some musical foundation was missing, which still had to be worked out...

Roland Bischof - Gitarre / Backing Vocals

Guitarist Roland "Paul" Bischof received his first guitar lessons at the age of 9, which led to music studies, which were later completed with the State Music Teacher Examination and then the Artistic Maturity Examination.
Already in his high school graduation year he began his work as a guitar teacher, which he still holds today.  After finishing his studies, he also made a name for himself as an accomplished guitarist in the classical "Torhaus Ensemble", which was able to make a name for itself throughout Germany in changing trio formations - for the time being, there was only room for the electric guitar in occasional dance music performances. Years of chamber music experience led to performances abroad in Israel and Russia (with the Dortmund Guitar Quartet), among others.
Besides early influences from bands like Genesis, Yes, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, Nektar and Camel, it was later especially the "Flower Kings", Spock's Beard and Dream Theater that shaped his musical signature.  In addition, his preference for the music of Bruckner, Wagner or Mahler is noticeable in his compositions for the band.

Bernd Bauer - Drums / Percusssion

Drummer Bernd Bauer made his first musical steps, as usual in those times, with the English flute, soon followed by violin lessons. Although first success could be achieved, those classical lessons more and more turned out to be a force, which somehow was no longer contemporary. Artists like Iron Butterfly, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple and others presented powerful and free performances, unleashing feelings into musical pathways, that were not known before. As a result, a drum set was bought from the first own money (at the age of 14), but lessons were no longer an issue. Instead, rock music of those times was played along, obsessively. Student bands followed. Besides the electric guitar, also approached autodidactically, the drums remained the musical companion for the following decades. Style of play was developed along with contemporary rock songs and, thus, reflects the entire era. Additionally acquired bass and keyboard basics allowed the realization of own musical projects in the home studio. With technical regards, the actual homestead is new-, post- and speed-metal. Cozy Powell and Mike Mangini are the essential influences concerning their playing style. Crucial aspect of the own technique is the symmetric playing with alternating leading hands, to be continuously cultivated. For this purpose, two SONOR sets were rebuilt and augmented. An own Youtube channel is operated with this central topic.

Quiet Earth and their amazing Progressive Art Rock are a formidable challenge because of perpetual metric and tempo changes, as well as wayward off-tempo passages. Powerful drumming is intended to provide the songs an increasing „heavy“ attitude.

Andreas Kuhlmann - Bass / Cello / Backing Vocals

Musik?

Music? Of course, what a question!! That was already the case when I was 4.5 years old, and it has remained that way. Melodica, then finally the longed-for piano, cello (with which one could play so wonderfully in the school orchestra) and electric bass - a causal chain that doesn't make sense to everyone. But what does that matter...
Studying music was the logical consequence, but not that it should be a career as an orchestra musician or music teacher. The rock fever had struck, and in addition, through various contacts, the first requests came in the direction of music production and film music.
Composing music myself - a great idea! And so, over the years, not only several great productions for ARD, ZDF, Arte and other TV stations were added. Also live music always came into its own in various forms. And this not only in cover bands, but also in Brazilian drumming, barbershop singing, once again in orchestras, in acoustic cover bands with the cello etc. ect. pp
But the idea to do Prog-Rock with an own band was always in my heart. All the nicer that this became reality now.

Roland Paroth - Leadgesang / Gitarre

At the age of 7, basic musical education in the music school of the city of Letmathe with recorder lessons with Miss Rattunde (yes, Miss is correct) for about 2 years. After that about 3 years of piano lessons until he was dropped because of listlessness. Young Roland didn't want to cram Czerny etudes. He wanted to be a rock star, damn it!
The inevitable band came at the age of 15, that was in 1976.
ZEUS - a school band that became more and more successful in the next 3 years and made it to regional popularity. There he was the singer and at first rhythm guitarist, later switching to keyboards. 1979 the first single "Toccata/Pourqoui pas" and first thoughts to raise the whole Rock'n Roll business more professional. In 1980 the draft notice came (yes, there was still compulsory military service) and put an abrupt end to the professional rock'n'roll ambitions!
After the military service no more rock music, only family and civil profession. So from the mid-2000s, the first musical attempts of the slowly growing children awakened the feeling that this could not have been everything. Then in 2009, after almost 30 years of stage abstinence, the unique reunion concert of Zeus, a great project with live album and the firm intention to repeat the whole thing in 2019.
Much of Roland's favorite styles can be found in "progressive rock music", which makes this direction rich and valuable in a unique way. And what makes Quiet Earth special for him is the fact that the music of this band offers sophisticated rhythm, instrumental virtuosity and compositional complexity on the one hand, and beautiful melodies on the other.

Arnfried Rosenkranz - Keyboards / 12str-Gitarre

Arni works as a freelance music teacher in instrumental lessons for piano, guitar and also other string/keyboard instruments.
He also enjoys accepting commissions for compositions. His passion has always been composing any kind of music - also influenced by classical music and progressive rock, where many things happen.
Then he met Quiet Earth with just such influences and an uncanny creative potential from which he hopes the band will continue to draw for a long time - visions seem to come true for him more and more.
